Below, is an actual 8th grade exam from the year 1895.
And, it represents an excellent basic learning format,
which all schools should follow.
It's possible to create a curriculum without any Special interest.
Learning would be a better experience for every student,
if their textbooks remained neutral, and free of activism.

This is amazing and a great statement of how undisciplined the mind can be after all the fomenting of media to youth. I myself need to do some 'learning' to get the 'grade' to honestly pass. Even an adult like myself needs to be more on top of these subjects. One thing I observe is that so much automation and technology and departmentalism of jobs has made a great many of society 'dumbdowned' or ignorant of these basic skills.

Well, after my BA and some graduate school, I see that I need to get an 8th grade education.

See what the Dept. of Education has accomplished?

These skills are geared toward creating WORKERS for an industrial society. Memorizing facts/factoids, graphing sentences, etc. does nothing to produce children who can think in complex ways, or truly understand what's going on in society.

Matching dates with battles teaches NOTHING about history. Writing down the rules of grammar teaches NOTHING about writing or communicating clear ideas.

Before you crack too hard on modern education, go download a set of education standards from any state, and note the difference emphasis on thinking.

you guys do know you are arguing about a test that is fake correct? I mean get a clue.

snopes does not say that the test is a fake...snopes says that it does not, in any way, prove the decline of our education system...

well it does say
"Status: False"

seems to indicate it isn't real.. unless they mislabeled it, which is certainly possible.

Just a quick comment to Anonymous: I do agree 100% that there's more to education than simply learning facts. However, when I posted this article, there was a simple message. Nowadays, our educational system is comprised of Theoretical ideas. And, the potential for abuse is troubling. SO, that's a key message.
